The winter hunt
I was talking with my son last night about what meat he had managed to shoot this winter.
If yall are offended by hunting, or hunting related comments.. just skip this one.
We were talking about his probability of shooting a boone and crocket buck
heres a link so you can see how whitetail deer are scored
Anyway he only shot a small button buck, and didnt see anything over a 6 point, he figures chances of getting a record buck are slim and none.
For some reason this made me think of a outfitter name of Leroy from CowboyHeaven,Montana that we used to know. In fact I would go to elk camp for a week or two every november and cook for those brave souls who dared to chase the elk in the back country of the Bob Marshall Wilderness in hopes of killing a boone and crocket elk.
Leroy was a darn fine outfitter and his right hand name was Buck. Buck was old when Gods dog was a puppy. Buck was a mule wrangler, a packmaster, and well a storyteller (thats a nice way of saying he lied) he also cheated at cribbage.
My friends could never understand the allure of riding a horseback in the winter into a backcountry
camp in the Bob, during winter. How many people even know what a sheepherders stove is , or have had the joy of riding into the mountains during a blizzard? Playing cribbage by latern or sawing wood by crosscut saw.
remembering to tied the flaps of the cook tent open , so if that old Griz comes back , it maybe wont take the cook tent apart to get in.. what in heck does any of this have to do with the kids hunt record for the year?
Nothing, really, doesnt.
I was reading a email from Andrew Graham, a really nice guy who is in charge of carnival of christmas
and I had sent a submission to him.. anyway yall can read Adams Blog here
But reading Adams blog brought me to Thoughts From The Middle Of Nowhere, a Montana cattle ranchers blog, its pretty cool.
Actually its so cool you can vote for him at the web blogs
awards You can vote every day until the 15th of December.
So go vote!
