Merry Christmas from Bethlehem

The stable in Bethlehem, south of Jerusalem, smelled sweet with hay,
low tones of a cow talking to her calf, the nicker of a horse in greeting,
the donkeys braeing, horses munching their hay, the quiet baas of the sheep,
the lowing of the cows.

In the stable, there is a sense of waiting,
prophesy to be fulfilled, history to be made.

In the stable,Mary the mother sweating to birth her child, in less than ideal circumstances,
the husband Joseph helping,Simple people touched by God, doing what needed to be done.
The child cleansed and wrapped, fed his first meal and laid into a manger to sleep.

The child,Jesus The Christ. Born to Save The world.
It was the gift we needed most: a Savior, the Holy Son of God.
In the stable the light of The Glory of God surrounding The Christ Child.
The Angelic Choir, singing , Praises to The King.
The promised Messiah. The King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

In the stable the magi who had followed the star laid before the Christ child,
the gifts. Gold for The king, ,the bitter perfumes of myrrh, and frankincense.
Gifted at birth with the perfume that would anoint him in death.
I think of the power that must have been present that day.
The joy bittersweet.

In the stable, the power Of God manifested in this child born of flesh,
conceived of the Spirit. Born of a virgin.
A gift freely offered.
In the stable, God loved the world so much that he gave his only son
to us,so that if we would believe, we would have
eternal life.
A gift we celebrate at Christmas, the Grace and love of God.

In the stable was peace.
