What Is Hell?
Hell, what is it?
This is not one of those funny sardonic questions.
It is a real question about, well hell. A friend called me the other day, upset because she was told by a Baptist preacher she was going to hell for not going to church.
I had to explain to her first that, that was a lie.
And then what is the only reason for hell, and the people that will go there.
Hell is the place all too often people are told they are going.
This announcement may or may not be made in anger or spite.
It may be used as a scare tactic.
It may be that the person simply doesn’t like you and wishes you ill.
Or, it may truly be that you have rejected the Good news, that Jesus Christ loved you so much that He died so that you can live..
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.â€
But if you refuse this gift of life, where do you go?
God needs to have a place to put people who rejected fellowship with Him.
That is the only reason for hell by the way.
Hell has not yet been created.
We can only have fellowship with God thru the work on the cross done by Jesus Christ.
So what is hell?
Hell is eternal separation, From God.
It is eternal aloneness.
Forever.
Alone.
With the Awareness that you rejected the love of God, and The Gift that Jesus Christ offers freely to all.
Eph 2; 8 “ For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.â€
This is a difficult idea to understand.
Because in our human understanding, we say, well that’s not fair, or I don’t like that, so obviously it isn’t true.
It is fact. Man is destined to die. There is no escaping this.
We will all die. We will all stand before the Throne of God, and
Face God’s judgment.
Consider a court room,
There is a judge, and a defense attorney, that will be Jesus Christ.
The Judge (God) reads the charges, Jesus stands beside you in this court
And says, not guilty, I paid with my blood for this persons sins.
Or Jesus will stand beside you, and say Father this one is also not guilty because I paid for their sins also, but lost, their name I do
Not know.
And Jesus will weep.
At the end of the judgment where will you be?
Take a moment and ponder, Alive with God or Lost Forever.
Ask Jesus Christ to come into your life if you haven’t already.
