We spent this last weekend traveling to look at wrecked boats boats that were misrepresented. The MasterOfTheUniverse was discouraged after we had driven many hundreds of miles to look at a boat that was listed on yacht world.She looked like a beauty, and we were hopeful she would meet our needs.

Interestingly enough she didnt look at all like the photos, either posted by the ads or sent to us by the sellers. When the owner(s) were questioned they said the boat had fresh paint.
Yeah like in 1920…

Now I wasn’t born last night and I didn’t fall off the turnip truck.
What possible reason would be to their advantage to misrepresent the boats?

1 boat had, had a “small” fire and the engines hadn’t run in 3 years, small facts that were not mentioned before we drove to see them. Even thought we asked if she was sea ready!

The frosting to the weekend came when we got home, and saw a response to an inquiry about a boat listed on eBay for 45,000.00 dollars.

This same boat we had looked at and lusted after, knowing she was way outside of our price range, but curious why she’d show up on eBay.

She was listed at 485,000.00 dollars at yachtworld.
This is the email we read:

I have received your email regarding my boat. First of all my name is Sebastien and I am the owner of the Carver Yacht on ebay that you have asked about. The boat was purchased new and I am the original owner. It has always been very well maintained and winterized with very little use. It is in excellent condition. Everything is original. As you can see from the pictures, the yacht is flawless inside and out. The interior is in like new condition and has never been smoked in. I am willing to sell it for a lower price than usual because I have recently got a promotion at my work and I had to move with my family in Europe. I got a new home in Spain, Alicante so keeping the boat with me is impossible because I cannot register it here due to the taxes and registration fees to high. We brought the boat with us, wanting to register it here, but I couldn’t because in order to get it registered it will need serious engine modifications to comply with the EU emission standards. Nobody from here is interested on buying the yacht, not even the dealers. I have the clear title in hand. All the manuals and the original documents are in English. It is made for US market. You will receive all paperwork, title, keys, owner manual and receipts that you need to register it in your name. It can be registrated with any kind of problems in any state. All the US taxes for the boat are already paid so you won’t have to deal with customs. I’ll ship it by Berge Marítima ocean cargo and it will take no more then 6 days to get to you. The keys and papers will be sent by UPS overnight. As I said in the ebay ad the total price including shipping is $40,500. I have a friend working for the shipping company and he will manage me a low price shipping. There is a deadline term when I must pay the import tax, so I can’t afford to lose time. I prefer to make some money while I still can. So if you are really interested to buy the yacht let me know so we can close the deal as soon as posible. Ebay will handle the financial transaction so we can be 100% protected. I will use my personal bank account for here so we can manage the transaction faster. Knowing this way a scam, TMOTU sent back an email saying we would hire a local broker..
To inspect/survey the boat..
Its unlikely we will ever hear back from him..
Or eBay for that matter..Although we did report him using live ebay, as well as email…
