Magnolia On My Mind

Posted by pet | Florida, Gardening..Flowers | Sunday 15 November 2009 11:06 pm

This is the wrong time of year for our magnolia tree to bloom.
Yet bloom it is! This beauty was picked around 6am
this morning, Tigger and SonnyBob had an immediate face-off to see who was da flower boss….

I used the squirt gun to end that nonsense……..I am
currently no one’s favorite…

Life~Update

SirWoody has graciously agreed to help me catch up on life information around here..

It’s been a hot summer in Florida, no real news there, except it has also been very, very dry…The roses are flourishing this summer, responding to care and feeding, what a blessing to look out and see the rainbow of colors in the front rose bed!

TheMasterOfTheUniverse’s mother had a bad car accident a couple of weeks ago, hit the accelerator instead of the breaks, and went through the wall of her doctor’s office.
Thankfully she was not seriously injured (she is however in a rehab center due to knee and foot injuries.) and no one else was in the office.
We thank God no one else was injured.

My health continues to be up and down. We have decided that I will not undergo any further surgery. My body is now reacting to antibiotics like they are a bad toxin…
I am completely at peace with this decision.
I continue to need morphine for pain control for the arachnoiditis
And spine damage and infection, and the doctors don’t believe that will change.

On a cheerier note, our grandson Smitch has been here for the summer.
As with all teenagers, it’s been a mixed blessing!
Johnny our son was laid off from sprint. So he’s dealing with some major depression over that.

LoliTheBigDog, and TheBengalBrats are in excellent health and
Full of get up and let’s play!
I hope all of our friends in the Blogosphere are well and I am going
To make a concerted effort to catch up!

Mog reminded us that it’s out turn to host The Carnival Of The Cats this coming Sunday!
We are all pretty excited about that!
For all the mews that is news…

End Of Summer

Please enjoy this guest blog post by Kathy at Purple Bears Purple Flowers And Plants.

A delightful read!

End of summer thoughts for those of us who love gardening.

The end of summer is always a bit of a sad time for me since it means the end of gardening is drawing near for the year. There’s still those flowers which will continue to bloom until the first frost but for the most part it means the end is near for many. We still have flowers and plants we can enjoy through the fall but sadly our gardens will become awfully sparse as each day passes for those of us in cooler weather areas.

I noticed the other day my honeysuckle has just one lonely little bloom that’s yet to come. This was the first year for me to have this type of plant. Normally my garden is a very purple garden consisting of shades of purples with some pinks and whites that manage to blend in, but because of the little hummingbird fellas I decided to plant some flowers just for them this year.

Technically speaking, my honeysuckle is named Lonicera, John Clayton and is yellow. It’s actually a container plant on my deck and is growing up a small trellis. You can grow it along a fence or even as groundcover if that’s what you prefer, though. Lobelia Cardinalis, Queen Victoria kind of fits into the purple category since the stems and leaves are a dark purple, burgundy color. The flowers are the reddest red I’ve ever seen. It’s planted in the ground and definitely needs lots of water.

Planting both these plants was a great idea. Might sound silly to anybody who doesn’t appreciate hummingbirds, but spotting the little fellas for the first time feeding off both these plants was a joy to see. Several of my flowers were just introduced to my garden this year, next year watching them grow will be even better.

What to do though now that gardening for the year is almost over. Plot my gardening strategy for next year. ( Gardening books and gardening magazines are a great source for gardening ideas. I’ll learn a gardening tip or two and usually spot a new flower or plant I hadn’t known about. So, I’ll probably spend my time thinking of new flowers, researching them a bit and daydreaming of getting ready for next year. I suppose just thinking or looking at my Pictures of Purple Flowers and Plants will have to do.
