Friday night he spiked a pretty good fever so it was time for some medical intervention…
Our problem was the VA clinic was NOW closed until Monday.

I have about a months worth of Keflex given to me for suppression antibiotic therapy.
It was not used because I had developed c-diff. So Friday night I started
TheMasterOfTheUniverse started on Keflex.

It was clear by Sunday night things were looking up, and he was feeling better.
I was delighted because we had plans for several things this week.

Monday morning he was in the bathroom and started coughing…violently coughing as in
I can’t breath coughing. I walked into the bathroom to witness TheMasterOfTheUniverse
having a seizure, shaking and moving, eyes rolled back in his head. It was
TERRIFYING. It lasted only about fourteen or fifteen lifetimes
30 or 40 seconds, and when he came out of it he had no idea what had happened.

I was all for calling an ambulance and getting right to the hospital.
He wanted to go to the VA Clinic. He actually thought I would let him drive…
You can see his brain wasn’t working quite right…Gawd!
The VA clinic after an hour and a half wait, decided he needed to be evaluated by a neurologist…So where did we go? THE FRICKING Hospital.

The VA had notified the ER we were coming.
He was taken back immediately. In 40 minutes he had, an IV,
a couple of gallons of blood drawn,
a chest x-ray-twice, a CT scan of his brain, urinalysis, EKG-twice.
The VA has a ” VA Navigator” working at the hospital,
she stopped by to make sure he was getting the stuff he needed…
By then he was feeling much better and was passing
out rashions of mouthiness to all equally. I was so glad to see that!

The conclusion…
The EXTREMELY violent coughing suppressed his vagel nerve,
causing his blood pressure to plummet, which released a bunch of endorphin’s
which is what caused the seizure.
So another antibiotic, prednisone and benzonatate.

I hope to never see any thing like this again .. It was really really scary.

I could not find an ottoman that was anywhere close to the one we had to replace it, and to have a custom made cover was way out of our price range.I mentally cursed TheBengalBrats for being a pain in my ass and ruining perfectly wonderful furniture for using our furniture as scratching posts. It is IMPOSSIBLE to stop Bengal’s from scratching something once they start.

I have to add TheBengalBrats have two scratching posts, not just one, but they were adamant that the
furniture was just an extension of their posts…Anyway…

I casually mentioned to TheMasterOfTheUniverse that I had some experience as a teen helping one of my grandmothers doing upholstery. He thought that was a fricking brilliant idea, so off to JoAnne’s fabric I went.
In my hot little paws was a 40% off coupon good for 2 days, this being the second day and the coupon being a gift from my best friend who actually still gets a newspaper.

So after asking questions of the counter lady who knew and had forgotten more than I will ever know about fabric. I picked out a micro swede in Tan. Debated new scissors, purchased the material, forgetting to buy thread, because I was so excited about doing some sewing.

What pattern did I use? Well … there was no pattern, just an idea in my head of WHAT it should look like.
Here’s a hint, buy a pattern!

It would have taken maybe 4 or 5 days, the way I am able to work to complete this project… But it took me nearly a month because I winged it. I had lot’s of fun tearing out seams and resewing things. I found out after I used rope to make the welt, that sewing centers actually sell welt in different widths.

All told though it came out pretty darn good.

You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is. So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)

‘An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans..

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than inAfghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion.. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world..

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous.. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan ..

The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001, earning a better life for their families. It’s been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world.. But, in doing so, you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

TheMasterOfTheUniverse and I have faced some big BIG and tough
decisions in the last 3 years.They continue, but we are better prepared and informed these days.

Thankfully we had excellent medical care and doctors who really cared if Pet lived or died.

Bone infections are insidious, spinal bone infections are in addition
frustrating and aggravating.

For Me, (Pet) to commit to anything is almost impossible. I never know when I will be able to sit in the car, or truck. Or host a dinner, or simply meet friends for dinner.
Not FUN, hell most definitely hard to live with.
I give John mega points for his love and support. Truly I would
not have made it this far without him.

SirWoody is hanging in at 18 pounds.

Just try to cut SonnyBob back on anything… dare you!
SirWoody continues to amuse us with his silly forgetful moments..
oops.. that frig didnt use to be there did it?
Why are all the closet doors closed and SirWoody is on the inside?
I try but he slips one by me now and again!

Maj. Dick Winters
92 years old from Hershey, Pennsylvania
Company E, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division
January 21, 1918 – January 2, 2011

Maj. Richard “Dick” Winters passed away a couple of weeks ago and Beth has written a wonderful piece honoring his service and his life.

Some of the awards Maj. Winters was honored with for his service: Distinguished Service Cross, Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf Cluster, American Defense Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 service stars and arrow device, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Croix de guerre with palm, French Liberation Medal, Oorlogskruis with palm, Belgian WWII Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge with 2 combat stars and the Medal of the City of Eindhoven

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived
