Good Friday

God so loved the world,” John writes, “that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”John 3:16

God loved the world that at indescribable pain and immeasurable cost he gave the world himself.

Friday at sunset Jesus Christ ate the Passover with His disciples, instituted the Lord’s Table, washed the disciples feet.He taught for hours.

He agonized in Gethsemene, prayed the high priestly prayer of John 17:1-5
“After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. ”

Later that evening, He was betrayed with a kiss, arrested, tried before the Jews and the Romans, before Annas, Caiaphas, before Pilate, Herod, and the before Pilate again. He was then condemned and crucified.

The message of the cross cannot and will not be received by anyone apart from the work of the Father through the Holy Spirit, which is exactly what the Bible teaches, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit is what our Lord promised:

“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day” John 6:44.

The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned 1 Corinthians 2:14).

“When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned” John 16:8-11.

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and expired. John19:30

To Christ goes the victory!
