New covenant

Published by pet under Christian, Faith

Christ’s act at the Last Supper declares that his death is atoning, that his blood is like the Passover blood, that his death will save his followers from their sins, and that his death will create the new covenant community around him.

This is what Paul tells us of the new covenant :

“For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Andf Still, the gospels show not only Christ’s fulfillment of prophesy but also that Christ alone was able to fill it. When Jesus the Christ talks about Good Friday, He always talks about Resurrection as well.

Matthew presents Jesus as the King of Kings.
Mark as Christ the servant to God and man.
Luke presents Christ as the perfect man.
John presents Christ as the Only Son of God.

“From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.” Matt. 16:21

“The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” Matt.17:22-23

“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” Matt. 20:18-19

The way the Christ gives it to us, the cross and the resurrection are bound together, Good Friday and Easter Sunday are one. Christ’s death and resurrection are two sides of the same coin.

On Good Friday Christ destroys death and defeats satan; on Easter death and satan are made a public spectacle.

It would be so easy to say, they crucified my Lord. Sigh, wail, and whine, if we had not the assurance, of the beautiful life changing resurrection morning.
But we do know.
